Description
Dog Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). Adoption Fee: 275. Meet Panda Panda is a roughly 2-year-old Great Pyrenees mix whose story is one of quiet strength and survival. He was rescued from an FLDS commune in rural Arizona, where he lived on a small petting-zoo hobby farm. Despite everything he’s been through, Panda remains gentle, kind, and incredibly sweet with everyone he meets. He’s neutered, up to date on vaccines, and healthy, though he carries an old eye injury that’s fully healed and doesn’t affect him at all. Panda gets along beautifully with other dogs, is good with livestock and cats, and has that calm, steady temperament that makes the Great Pyrenees breed so special. Playful in short bursts but generally more stoic and serious, Panda would make an excellent livestock guardian or a loyal companion for someone who appreciates a thoughtful, observant dog. If you’re looking for a steady presence who’s lived a hard story and still chooses love and gentleness — Panda is your boy. Located in Montana, with transport available throughout the PNW.

Overview:
The Great Pyrenees is a majestic and ancient breed, originating in the Pyrenean mountains between France and Spain, where they served as formidable livestock guardians. Physically, they are large, powerful dogs, easily recognized by their thick, double coat, typically white (though sometimes marked with badger, grey, or tan), and a distinctive "double dewclaw" on their hind legs. Despite their imposing size, their temperament is generally calm, gentle, and remarkably patient, making them excellent companions. They possess a natural protectiveness, which translates to a watchful eye over their families and property. While loving and tolerant with children, their size and barking tendencies make them less suited for small apartment living; a home with a yard is ideal. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, patellar luxation, and certain eye conditions, emphasizing the importance of responsible breeding. Their independent nature also means they require consistent, positive reinforcement training.
