Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). Trixie is a sweet 3-year-old pittie girl weighing in at 58 pounds of pure love. She can be a little shy when meeting new people, but once she feels safe, her affectionate, gentle personality shines bright. Her favorite things include leaning in for pets, giving soft kisses, and staying close to her humans. This well-mannered lady is wonderfully trainedâshe walks beautifully on a leash and is crate trained. Sheâs also mastered many of her basic commands and loves showing them off for treats and praise. Trixie has previously lived with both dogs and cats, and with proper introductions she might fit right into a multi-pet home. If youâre looking for a sweet, steady companion who blossoms into a total lovebug, Trixie is ready to meet you! If you are interested in meeting Trixie, please visit the shelter during our open hours; Mon, Tues, Wed, Fri 10a-12:30p & 2p-4p, Thurs 10a-12:30p & 2p-6:30p, and Saturday 9a-1p. Adoption application can be filled out and approved during your meet-and-greet. If you have another dog in the home, plan to bring them for a meet before you complete the adoption!

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
