Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). Steel arrived at the shelter as a fearful stray, but with time, patience, and kindness, he has truly blossomed into a fun-loving, affectionate companion. Once he trusts you, Steelâs favorite things in the world are cuddling close and giving enthusiastic kisses! This smart boy already knows how to sit and shake your hand, and his sharp mind means heâs primed to learn so much more. Steelâs absolute favorite toy is a ballâtoss it, and he transforms into a joyful, goofy pup in seconds. Because he can still be fearful and has a rough play style, Steel would do best in a home without young children. If youâre looking for a loyal, loving dog with tons of potential and an even bigger heart, Steel is ready to meet his person. If you are interested in meeting Steel, please visit the shelter during our open hours; Mon, Tues, Wed, Fri 10a-12:30p & 2p-4p, Thurs 10a-12:30p & 2p-6:30p, and Saturday 9a-1p. Adoption application can be filled out and approved during your meet-and-greet. If you have another dog in the home, plan to bring them for a meet before you complete the adoption!

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
