Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Shy guy Spruce is still young â just over a year old. He's easy to leash and doesn't pull. He's more than ready to head out to a loving home. His scruffy, wash-n-wear coat makes it simple to keep him spruced up and looking his best. He gets a little nervous on walks, but remains non-reactive to the loud barkers along the way. He has fun playing with other small dogs and happily gobbles up all the treats he earns for being a good boy. He likes scratches and cuddles from the volunteers. He gets an A+ for getting along well with others! If you're looking for a dapper little companion to blend in with your family, Spruce is the dog for you! All animals are up-to-date on vaccinations (including rabies if over 4 months old), microchipped, and spayed or neutered. All dogs have been been vaccinated with DHPP and Bordatella (kennel cough) and heartworm tested negative (if over 6 months). All cats have been vaccinated with FVRCP and current on flea control. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
