Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Finn! This adorable little guy was found wandering as a stray and taken in by a Good Samaritan who reached out to our rescue for help. He was covered in fleas and had some hair loss from itching, but was otherwise in good shape - a young, healthy boy just needing some TLC. Finn is currently being fostered with Jula and her crew of two dogs and two cats. At only 10 lbs, he’s the smallest member of the pack, but that doesn’t stop him. He loves wrestling and playing chase with the bigger dogs, and he’s respectful and gentle with the kitties. Overall, Finn is adjusting wonderfully to home life. His potty training has come a long way, and he’s mastered the doggy door. He’s a medium-energy adolescent: playful and active, but learning how to relax inside and settle at bedtime. He’s crate-trained and is crated when left alone. He’s still young and occasionally gets into mischief, like chewing on his foster mom’s favorite flip-flops. Finn is very food-motivated and eats quickly. He’d happily help himself to the other dogs’ meals, but he responds well to verbal correction and minds well. He’s snuggly and loves burrowing under blankets and will curl up against you when you sit down. At night, he sleeps soundly tucked under the covers next to his foster mom or curled above her head like a kitty. This little guy is social, confident, and very people-oriented. He sticks close, enjoys being with his humans, and shows affection in his own sweet way. He’s becoming even cuddlier as he settles in. His skin has healed beautifully, his coat is filling in, and he’s blossoming into the adorable companion he was meant to be. Finn is an all-around wonderful little dog who will make an amazing companion and pack member. Coming to the DC metro area on 12/6. Apply today! Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
