Description

Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog. DESCRIPTION: Meet Big Boy — a handsome senior German Shepherd with a heart as warm and generous as his name suggests! This gentle giant is pure sweetness wrapped in a soft, loyal soul. Big Boy adores being part of whatever his family is doing and has a calm, loving presence that brings comfort to everyone around him. He gets along beautifully with people and other animals alike, showing signs of being both dog- and cat-friendly. His easygoing, mellow temperament makes him an ideal companion for almost any home. Whether he’s trotting happily beside you on a walk, quietly watching over the yard, or curling up to relax with his favorite humans, Big Boy shines brightest when he’s surrounded by love. Big Boy was picked up as a stray almost a year ago by another rescue. However, due to an overabundance of animals in need in the area he was overlooked by potential adopters for far too long. Knowing that this gentle soul deserved a family to call his very own, the rescue asked us to consider welcoming Big Boy to the rescue family. MAGSR knew this handsome guy would be the perfect match for the right household and welcomed him without a second thought. Although we know Big Boy is special, we do not know much about his past. With such an incredible personality, someone must have loved him somewhere along his journey. Like all shepherds, Big Boy is looking for a loving household that will provide him with the structure, routine, and leadership that will help him thrive. Training will be critical to his success. Not only will training help Big Boy recognize that he is finally home with his forever family, but it will also help him develop the skills needed to become a good canine citizen. I Big Boy is looking for a forever family that will appreciate his impressive nature and provide him with the love and happiness that he so desperately deserves. Big Boy truly is a big boy with an even bigger heart. If you are looking for the perfect gentleman, look no further than this boy!

German Shepherd Dog

A.K.A.: Alsatian, Alsatian Wolf Dog, Shepherd Dog, GSD, Deutscher Schäferhund, Schäferhund, Berger Allemand, Pastore Tedesco, Perro de Pastor Alemán, Alsatian Dog
Overview:

The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
