Description

Dog Breed: Basset Hound (short coat). Please read the pet description IN IT'S ENTIRETY before applying. Thank you for your cooperation. NOT YET TAKING APPLICATIONS – NOT YET AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION NEW INTAKE 11/17/2025: Mr. Wrinkles - male - DOB 12/8/2023 - 50.10 pounds - Basset Hound Reason for intake: We were contacted by Caddo Parish Animal Services that Mr. Wrinkles was at their shelter to surrender him. We are Basset-lovers so of course, we immediately went to pick him up. The shelter is always full and owner surrenders sometimes have to wait to come in... but the owner was moving and could not wait. He's already neutered but has to go to the vet to get a couple of things done. He's super sweet... typical Basset cuddleness, with the Basset bay/bark! Stay tuned... we'll be posting him for adoption in the coming days. NOT TAKING APPLICATIONS: Many dogs, particularly breeder, hoarder or senior dogs, can have multiple medical issues that need addressed. Additionally, sometimes we take in young puppies requiring multiple vaccinations and/or quarantining. In this particular case, we are not yet taking applications either due to age or possible illness or some other reason. We will post when s(he) is ready for adoption. In the interest of fairness, EARLY application submissions will NOT be considered. Please note… we cannot respond to messages/emails, etc., on dogs that are NOT yet available for adoption. Please wait until the dog is available for adoption. We will post him or her on Facebook in our Adoptable Dog Album pinned to the top of our page which you can follow at this link: .facebook/share/1B46skRWF5/ OR you can keep checking our website at .roadtorescuela. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding. “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” ~ Gandhi Be responsible ~ Always spay/neuter, keep your dogs on heartworm prevention, vaccinate against disease... and if you bring a pet into your life, commit to that pet for life. Blessings.

Overview:

The Basset Hound is a charming and distinctive breed, originating in France as a scent hound primarily used for hunting hare and rabbit. Easily recognized by their long, droopy ears, sad-looking eyes, and short, sturdy legs, they possess an incredibly powerful sense of smell. Despite their somewhat mournful expression, Bassets are known for their gentle, laid-back, and affectionate temperament, making them wonderful companions for families. They are generally good with children and other pets, though their stubborn streak and loud baying bark require consistent training. While they can adapt to apartment living with sufficient daily exercise, their tendency to follow their nose means a secure yard is essential. Potential owners should be aware of common health concerns such as ear infections due to their long ears, back issues, and bloat. Overall, the Basset Hound is a loyal and loving, if sometimes comically determined, addition to many homes.
