Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler (short coat). Location: MD Meet Cappy, He is a neutered male that is 7 years old. Up to date on all shots, just done in September, he is waiting for his new hoomans. His owner died so it was no fault of his own that he needed a new home . He has been living in an empty home, waiting for someone to come and feed him and let him out. When he is left alone he will lay next to the door and wait for someone to come back (sad) . He is very devoted to his humans. Since our house is rarely empty and he does not seem so sad . He is said to have lived with a cat. I can not verify that, but will say he has never chased any of our livestock. We do not have cats. He gets along with other dogs here on the farm. He however has spent most of his life as the only dog and I think that would be a great match for him. He loves kids, will lay down and just let them pet him. Does not jump on people when he first meets them also. Cappy does pull on the leash when you walk him, so he would need more practice with that. Uses our pet door and is housebroken and crate trained. I find him sometimes just laying in it. Rides well in the car without a crate. Would make a great first cattle dog for someone. He likes to play hard and gets a little over zealous sometimes. Playing with a toy helps that situation. So don't let him fool you. If he gets outside to blow some energy he will come back in and sleep. He loves laying on the floor next to your feet. He does not get up on the furniture also. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
