Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Siberian Husky / Mixed (medium coat). Meet ZuZu – your affectionate and snuggly best friend to be! With one blue eye, one brown eye and goofy ears, this 2 year old, 55 pound girl is sure to steal your heart! ZuZu enjoys being a part of the action and lives up to the “Shepherd” in German Shepherd by checking around the home making sure all household members are accounted for when you’re at home and out walking the trails – she has excellent recall! We don't know for sure, but her foster family thinks ZuZu is a mix of German Shepherd, Husky, and Malinois. ZuZu still has puppy energy and can play or run all day if you’ll allow her. With her athletic ability, she will require a 6 foot fence. She would do best in an active home where she can be regularly exercised and mentally stimulated. She currently knows sit, lay down, and is working so very hard on stay. ZuZu is housebroken and crate trained and can be trusted outside her crate so long as you don’t leave snacks on the counter. ZuZu is a foodie and will help herself to unattended goodies. She will do anything you ask for a treat! ZuZu loves everyone she meets and gets along exceptionally well with children, even littles. She has a canine friend in her current foster home and would do well with other dogs or as the only dog in the home. ZuZu has done very well with male dogs and would do best with slow introductions to other female dogs, although she does well in playgroups with both male and female dogs. ZuZu has not interacted with cats but shows prey drive with chickens, although she does respond to commands to leave the chickens alone. ZuZu’s favorite activities include running, playing keep away with her toys, rough housing with other dogs, shepherding the kids in her foster home, and taking a good couch nap. She can play all day but her all time favorite thing to do is snuggle up and cuddle on the couch! If you’re interested in making ZuZu a part of your family, reach out to your adoption coordinator. If you don’t have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at .freedomgermanshepherdrescue. ZuZu is being fostered outside of Jacksonville NC.

Breed overview
Overview:
The Gerberian Shepsky is a hybrid of the German Shepherd Dog and Siberian Husky, emerging in North America as a modern companion with working-dog roots. Typically medium to large, they feature an athletic build, erect ears, and a dense double coat, often with striking blue or heterochromatic eyes. Their temperament blends loyalty, intelligence, and independence, making them affectionate yet occasionally headstrong. With very high energy, they thrive on daily exercise and structured training, suiting active families more than apartment living without ample outdoor time. Early socialization supports good manners with children and other pets. Notable health considerations include potential hip dysplasia and eye issues; regular vet care, weight management, and coat grooming help maintain well-being. Their typical lifespan ranges around 10–13 years, rewarding committed owners with a loyal, adventurous companion.
