Dog Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Meet Cobain! At just over two years old and around 70 pounds, this handsome hunk is smart, mischievous, playful, and loving—a true toddler in canine form. Cobain came to us as a rough-around-the-edges pup with zero manners and zero direction. But with time, training, and consistency, he has transformed into an incredible companion. He’s now housebroken, crate-trained, a leash-walking all-star, and continues to learn new things every day. This boy greets people happily, though he’s still working on keeping all four paws on the ground. Cobain can also be a bit of a roughhouser during playtime, so he’s best suited for a home with older, dog-savvy kids who can handle his goofy puppy antics. Outside the home, Cobain is an adventure dog at heart. He loves to explore and would make an amazing hiking or camping buddy. Cobain is dog-friendly, but like many pups, he can become scared or overwhelmed in big groups. One-on-one, however, he shines—especially with slow introductions. He plays well with other dogs (especially females) and would thrive in a home with a laid-back canine companion and a fenced-in yard where they can romp and chase each other. The American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) is a robust and intelligent breed, originating in the United States from crossbreeding Old English Terriers and Old English Bulldogs for dog-fighting purposes. Physically, they are medium-sized, known for their muscular build, broad heads, and powerful jaws, typically weighing between 30-60 pounds. Their coats are short and come in a wide array of colors. Temperamentally, a well-socialized APBT is often described as loyal, affectionate, and people-oriented, displaying a playful and sometimes clownish demeanor. They can be excellent family companions, provided they receive consistent training and early socialization, though their high energy levels mean they thrive with active owners. While they can adapt to apartment living with sufficient exercise, a house with a secure yard is often preferred.
