Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed (medium coat). Cutie pie Piper is an approximately 1 year old mixed breed dog. Piper came to us in a somewhat frenzied state. A leash and collar were foreign objects to her but she has come such a long way in just a few short weeks! We have learned that Piper is quite the sweetheart and has a silly, playful personality! She’s very affectionate too- leaning in for pets whenever she can. We have also learned how smart she is! She has quickly picked up basic commands and will gladly work for treats. Piper has even come a long way on her leash manners and continues to get better every day. Piper would do best in a home with someone willing to continue her training, and give her time to acclimate to home life. Small children are not recommended since she can be a little jumpy. A fully enclosed fenced yard is required for Piper since she loves the freedom of running around and chasing a ball (and can burn off some of her energy!). Piper is spayed, microchipped and up to date on shots. She’s also appears to be dog friendly, and we would consider a home with a playful male dog. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
