Description

Dog Breed: Beagle (short coat). Adoption Fee: 200. JULIA is a sweet beagle girl looking for a home where she can be your constant sidekick. She's a petite 22 pound tricolor girl who loves every human she meets. At 9 years old she's technically a senior but she doesn't act her age. Julia is extra affectionate, cuddle time is her favorite time of day. She is very human oriented and is not interested in other dogs. She can coexist with dogs who aren't intrusive or overly curious but she would probably be happiest as your one and only. Julia is housebroken and crate trained. When Julia arrived her mouth was a hot mess so she needed a pretty extensive dental including 11 extractions but that does not cause her any difficulty eating. Beagles will always find a way.. If you'd like to meet Julia, please fill out a dog adoption application at dreamhouserescue. We are happy to arrange a private meet with an approved adopter. You can meet Julia at our weekly adoption event, Saturday noon-2 at PetSmart Eastgate. Our fully-vetted adoptable dogs go to prospective homes for a one-week trial period to make sure the dog and home are the right fit before an adoption is finalized. We only adopt dogs into homes where all current pets are spayed/neutered and current on vaccines and heartworm and flea and tick prevention. We do check veterinary references to make sure adopters are compliant with standard veterinary care. Our adoptable dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested, dewormed and current on flea and tick and heartworm prevention.

Overview:

The Beagle is a beloved scent hound with a rich history, originally bred in England for hunting hare and rabbit. Their most recognizable physical traits include a sturdy, compact build, adorable floppy ears, and soulful brown or hazel eyes. Beagles typically weigh between 18-30 pounds and stand 13-16 inches tall, featuring a smooth, dense coat that comes in a variety of tri-color or bi-color patterns. In terms of temperament, they are known for being exceptionally friendly, curious, and outgoing, making them wonderful companions for families with children and other pets. However, their strong prey drive and inclination to follow interesting scents mean they require a securely fenced yard and consistent leash training. While adaptable, their need for exercise and tendency to vocalize (howl!) makes them less ideal for small apartment living unless daily walks and mental stimulation are guaranteed. Regarding health, Beagles can be prone to certain conditions like hip dysplasia, epilepsy, and intervertebral disc disease, making responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups important.
