Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Meet Athena- a playful and sweet, 1 year old mixed breed dog who is ready for her forever family. Although Athena is 25-30 lbs, she likes to play and be social with other dogs even a little bigger than she is! Athena is crate trained and walks well on a leash. Athena loves car rides too! She likes to chase squirrels and small animals so a home without cats would be best along with a fenced in yard. Athena seems shy at first until she gets to know her surroundings. But once she is comfortable, she is very affectionate and lovable. She follows her human and doggie friends around the house and yard. Athena really enjoys her two bf's at her foster home so a home with another dog (or two!) would be best for Athena's confidence. She's a smart girl who lets you know when she needs to go outside by going to the door. If you have room in your home for sweet Athena, please fill out an application today! She is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccinations. Please apply today at pawsacrosspittsburgh/adopt. Paws Across Pittsburgh, Springdale, PA. KL#16182

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
