Scroll down to see more pictures of this dog. Lewie is available for adoption. He is 4 years old and weighs 7 lbs. His adoption fee is $800.00. Welcome Lewie! New to SAY Rescue is Lewie, 7lbs of cute in a fur wrapped body! Lewie is a very playful 4yrs old. Lewie is active AND cuddly, enjoying fetch with crinkle toys and daily lap naps. He eats well, and spins 360° for treats. He is mostly housebroken - we're working on his need to mark inside the house - and happily wears a belly band. He gets along well with former SAY foster Destiny, even though she's not too excited about his presence. Lewie is never far from his foster mom, providing excellent security even in the bathroom. He does bark a bit at first when left alone in the house, but settles once he realizes you are gone until you return. We were warned at intake he has some problems with resource guarding (food and toys), but he has not exhibited this behavior in his foster placement as of yet. At his grooming appointment Lewie was mostly a gentleman, only becoming nippy during removal of some badly matted areas of hair in sensitive spots. Understandable! He's a handsome, sweet boy who would be perfect for someone who likes to play and cuddle. Lewie is staying with Melody near Milford, PA.

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
