Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever. Honey is Brave, Gentle, and Full of Heart She is a lab mix with a golden spirit and a heart as sweet as her name. She and her sister Shadow appeared at a lake house over the July 4th weekend, likely abandoned in a known dumping area. Despite her rough start, Honey has shown remarkable resilience and tenderness. Shadow and Honey are available for adoption as a pair or individually. Honey is the braver of the pair, often leading the way with cautious curiosity. She warms up quickly, greeting new people with a wagging tail and gentle demeanor. She's well-behaved for a pup who's lived outdoors--eager to please and responsive to guidance. She accepts leashes, collars, car rides, and even wound care with ease. Honey gets along well with other dogs and has made fast friends with both family and neighborhood pups. She hasn't been tested with kids or other animals, but her gentle nature suggests she'd adapt well. If you feel your home might be the right place for such a great dog - the place to start is with the adoption application found at .dfwrescueme/adopt. Once submitted, the foster will contact you promptly to tell you more and to arrange a time to meet! The adoption fee for all of our dogs is $300.00, which includes their vaccinations and spay/neuter. X is participating in the DFW Rescue Me Guest Dog Program, so ongoing care and custody are provided by their foster, not by DFWRM.

Overview:
The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
