Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Troy was born about December 1, 2021, and is going to top out at about 95 pounds. He came to us from dog control from a nearby town and the story goes that he was a "garage dog" and somehow got away and the owner didn't have the means, or desire, to bail him out of doggie jail. When he was first found he was a little underweight but packed on some pounds and now he is filled out and his is one, big, beautiful, boy! He is fantastic with all the other dogs from the sassy Chihuahua to the elderly Rottie. Troy rides fine in the car and is fine on leash, but will hang with you in the country off leash. He surely appears to be all GSD, but we have no proof so there may be a mix of something else in there. He was easy going meeting us for the first time and happy to join everyone in our home. We have a dog door open 24/7 and he quickly figured it out and seems to be house trained, he was probably "garage" trained prior. So far there is only one thing he needs work on and we are doing our best to turn this behavior around quickly and that is his infatuation with human food and with his height it is very easy for him to take what he wishes from the stove or counter. Again, we are working on this, but it is likely a work in progress and work will need to continue into his next understanding and careful home. The Adoption Fee for this dog is $500.00 Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. In general our fees include spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccines, Home Again micro-chipping & registration, worming & flea control - a "complete" pet. We accept CASH or Visa/Mastercard ONLY. Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
