Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). Meet Freckles, one of 3 cutie pie 6 mo sisters. Notes from a Volunteer 11/24... ` Freckles the heart shaped nose puppy stole some hearts today ! She can be high energy at first, full of excitement greeting new people with jumps. I diverted her attention to focus on learning the Sit command instead. Good thing that she loves treats so she's highly motivated to learn and got the hang of the Sit command pretty quick. Not sure if anyone else has been working with her on this, if not, she is definitely a quick learner. She wasn't interested in toys at first as well but somehow she found the Woodstock toy and really went at it and it was such a joy just seeing her throwing that toy up in the air and going after it. ??She's such a sweet pup, we think she's gonna be adopted quick !` Freckles has participated in shelter playgroups and may enjoy a compatible canine friend in her new home. She's also sharing her shelter suite with a friend she met at the shelter. Looking for a buddy for your dog? Bring him/her to the shelter for a meet and greet and see if we're a match! Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
