Description

Dog Breed: Pug (short coat). Elfie, a 4 year old fawn pug and Daisy, a 10 year old black pug, found themselves in a tight spot along with two chihuahua friends after their mom passed away from cancer. Two very kind family members stepped in to help but unfortunately they were overwhelmed with the care of four dogs, and reached out to Kentuckiana Pug Rescue for help. These adorable girls have been with their foster for about two months now and are ready for the spotlight! Daisy on the other hand is a total people dog. She is her foster's shadow. Very sweet and has a bit of separation anxiety when I go to work. The longer she has been here the better it has gotten, but she would do best in a home where her humans are home most of the time. Daisy is housetrained, and does great walking on a leash and riding in the car. All Daisy really wants is to be with her person. Sleeping on the couch or in bed at your side, peaceful and serene. Daisy does just fine loose in the house while her foster is at work. Daisy really can’t be in a crate for long periods, as she stresses out and scratches at the bars. Daisy is also a great one for letting you know that there is someone at the door, or passing the house! Elfie is the epitome of a goofy pug. Elfie twirls and spins when you scratch her tail, and snores like a lumberjack. She is very housetrained and is fine being left alone without being crated. Elfie is also good on a leash, but does like to pull after squirrels and bark at strangers and other dogs. Elfie can sometimes play a little too rough and needs a quick timeout every so often. Nothing a little training and reassurance can’t be corrected. Elfie loves toys and sleeping! These two little ladies have stolen their foster's heart, and need a forever home together! *Bonded with Elfie and will need to be adopted together*

Overview:

The Pug, a charming and ancient breed, boasts a fascinating history believed to originate in China as early as 206 BC. Known for its distinctive flat, wrinkled face, large, expressive eyes, and tightly curled tail, the Pug's compact, muscular build is instantly recognizable. Despite their somewhat serious expression, Pugs are famously friendly, playful, and affectionate companions, often described as "clowns" due to their comedic antics. Their relatively low exercise requirements and adaptability make them excellent pets for apartment dwellers and devoted family members, thriving on human companionship. However, prospective owners should be aware of certain health considerations, primarily their susceptibility to respiratory issues due to their brachycephalic (short-nosed) structure, as well as potential eye problems and joint conditions. With proper care and attention, the Pug offers years of unwavering loyalty and delightful companionship.
