Description

Dog Breed: Poodle (Standard) (long coat). COURTESY LISTING This dog is a courtesy listing (not in the AARF program) but we will be reviewing applications and helping the owner find the right home for NICO. Please visit aarf-tn/adopt/adoption-app/ to apply. Get ready to welcome Nico, the ultimate happy-go-lucky gentleman who is ready to be your most devoted companion! This approximately 50lb, 1.5 yr old handsome Standard Poodle is a delightful blend of playful activity and a fantastic off switch, making him perfect for active days and cozy evenings at your feet. Nico is an incredibly stable and social dog who has met the whole crew: dogs, cats, children, and farm animals. He manages every new introduction like a gentle pro. He’s a heart-on-his-sleeve kind of guy, deeply devoted to his people and thriving when he is included in the daily routine. Nico knows an impressive list of commands like Sit, Stay, and Heel, showing he is smart and eager to please, particularly when treats are involved. You’ll love his goofy attempts to initiate play with his canine pals by tossing his toy in the air; in fact, he would absolutely adore having another calm dog in his forever home to keep him company! Nico is wonderfully house trained and walks like a dream on a leash, but he is a sensitive soul who values a predictable schedule. He does best when his routine is consistent, as sudden changes or feeling isolated can make him anxious, resulting in pacing or minor accidents. For this reason, Nico needs a patient family who is home more often than not and willing to give him a bit of time to decompress and build confidence in a new environment. While he handles his crate well when it’s placed near his people, he feels too lonely if it’s tucked away, so he prefers to be near the action. He is a truly versatile dog who only asks for consistency and companionship in return for his unwavering loyalty. If you are looking for a gentle, loving, and deeply social dog who promises to be your devoted shadow, please contact us for more information on adopting Nico! Interested in adopting? Take the first step and complete an adoption application on our website: aarf-tn/adopt/adoption-apps/ If you have questions that are not covered in the profile, visit the Pet Inquiry Form: aarf-tn/contact/pet-inquiry-form/. THIS PET IS FOSTERED IN TENNESSEE! We do list and adopt our pets nationwide. Typical transport cost to the Northeast is $180. Due to interstate adoption regulations, we are not able to adopt to RI and MA state residents. A.A.R.F. (All About Rescue and Fixin' Inc.) aarf-tn/ is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) no kill animal rescue organization located in the Upper Cumberland area of Tennessee. A.A.R.F. is comprised of unpaid volunteers and survives only on public donations. Thank you for thinking adoption first! Prior to adoption, all canines and felines are spayed or neutered, have received their age appropriate vaccinations, have been de-wormed for common parasites, and have received treatment for prevention of fleas and ticks. All canines over the age of 6 months have been tested for heartworm. All canines are put on heartworm prevention as soon as possible - this means dogs as soon as they are tested negative. Puppies are put on prevention immediately. All felines, regardless of age, have been tested for Feline Leukemia/FIV. Each animal receives a health check by a licensed veterinarian prior to adoption. Anything else found will be treated by our organization prior to adoption.

Overview:

The Standard Poodle is a captivating and highly intelligent breed with a rich history, believed to have originated in Germany as a water retriever before being refined in France. Renowned for their distinctive, dense, and curly coat—which is virtually non-shedding, making them a great choice for allergy sufferers—they are elegant and athletic dogs. Physically, they possess a proud carriage, a long muzzle, and dark, expressive eyes, typically weighing between 45-70 pounds. Their temperament is characterized by being highly intelligent, easily trainable, and generally good-natured, though they require mental stimulation to prevent boredom. Standard Poodles are surprisingly adaptable, thriving in active families and even adapting well to apartment living provided they receive adequate exercise and mental engagement. While generally healthy, owners should be aware of potential health concerns like hip dysplasia, bloat, and eye conditions. Their combination of brains, beauty, and biddability makes them a truly versatile and rewarding companion.
