Description
Dog Breed: Cocker Spaniel. Meet Baxter! Baxter is a joyful, six-year-old Cocker Spaniel with a lovable personality and a whole lot of spunk. He's mostly housebroken, crate-trained, and brings happiness everywhere he goes! This sweet boy recently tested positive for Lyme, but he was a champ with his medication and completed his treatment with no complications. Baxter is a devoted companion who loves his people deeply. In true Cocker Spaniel fashion, he has shown some protective instincts-occasionally giving a warning growl if he feels another dog or person might be a threat to his foster mom-so he'll do best in a family without small children and an adopter who understands dog communication and isn't startled by a growl. He enjoys going outside but prefers when his human goes with him. With regular potty breaks and a little routine, he does wonderfully. If skipped, he may leave a "reminder," so he'll thrive with someone who can accompany him outdoors a few times a day. Baxter gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home and loves being near his people-following his foster mom from room to room. He settles nicely in a crate, though he may bark if he knows you're home and he's not with you. And when it's time to come out? Baxter celebrates like he just won the lottery! Baxter's ideal home is one without young children and with someone who is home more often than not, after all, he just wants to be cuddled on the couch 24/7. A fenced-in yard would be a wonderful bonus. He's a sweetheart who simply wants someone to love-and someone who appreciates his loyal, protective nature in return. If you're looking for a devoted companion with a big heart and an even bigger desire to cuddle, Baxter may be your perfect match. Do you have room in your heart to give Baxter a lifetime of love and snuggles? Apply today!

Overview:
The Cocker Spaniel, a beloved breed with roots in the United Kingdom, was originally bred as a gundog to flush out woodcock. They are instantly recognizable by their medium size, typically weighing 20-30 pounds, their luxurious, often wavy coat (which comes in a variety of colors), and their long, expressive ears that frame their gentle, eager-to-please eyes. Known for their merry and affectionate temperament, Cockers are generally good-natured, intelligent, and relatively easy to train, making them an excellent choice for families with children and even first-time dog owners. While adaptable, their moderate exercise needs can be met with daily walks and playtime, making them suitable for apartment living as long as they receive sufficient mental and physical stimulation. Prospective owners should be aware of certain health considerations, including ear infections (due to their long ears), eye conditions like cataracts, and hip dysplasia, which highlight the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups.
