Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: $685. To apply to adopt this dog now, complete our adoption application HERE To see our upcoming events where you can meet some of our dogs, please see HERE Age: 4 months (as of 12/4/25) Weight: 18 lbs (as of 12/4/25) This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Meet Rascal, a delightful puppy with a heart full of joy! Rascal and his brothers; Ren, Rouger, and Blaze would love to meet you! We don’t know their breed mix as they were found in a cardboard box along a rural country road. They were rescued into a loving foster family with teens, other dogs, and cats and are doing great! Rascal is the epitome of sweetness, always ready with a goofy grin and a wagging tail to greet new friends. His playful antics and love for squeaky toys make him the center of attention. Smart and cuddly, Rascal is quick to learn new tricks and even quicker to snuggle up for a hug. His friendly and funny nature makes every day brighter. Being just puppies, they will have so much to learn! They are crate trained and are in the early stages of house training and learning to walk on a leash. We strongly recommend that all our dogs attend obedience classes because you get to learn commands together, and it offers an opportunity for confidence building and socialization for the dog. Rascal is looking for a forever home where he can share his endless love and laughter. Why not make Rascal, or one of his brothers, a part of your family? An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: Adoption Application - SOS Animal Rescue League in Rhode Island (sosarl) **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
