Description
Dog Breed: Hound (short coat). Meet Quill! Quill and his brother Bill came to us after they got into a tussle with a porcupine. They had many quills that had to be removed. It is possible that some quills were not found in surgery and may migrate and need to be removed later. So far, Quill is not having any additional issues with his quill removal. Quill does great with all people, including children. He is very friendly. We were told he lived in a home previously with other dogs, but we would need to do proper introductions with other dogs in the home. Quill and his brother Bill we estimate to be about a year old. We are not requiring adopting out Quill and Bill together-they do love each other, but they are a lot of dog together. They are young and still have a lot of energy. We do not know their breed makeup but suspect some type of hound. An approved adoption application is required. The $275 adoption fee (payable by cash or check only) includes spay/neuter; microchip; dental teeth cleaning (if needed prior to adoption); vaccinations; heartworm and tick disease testing; fecal w/ giardia testing, monthly heartworm and flea and tick prevention . Our adoption application may be found by going to: .headinhomerescue; then click on the link to the adoption application. Dogs for adoption may be seen by appointment only following an approved application. Proof of completion of an obedience class is required for all dogs following adoption. Please note: while we welcome out of state applications, we do not ship our animals and require adopters to come to Holland to finalize any adoption.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
