Description
Dog Breed: Husky. Meet Cardinal, a 4 year old husky who will talk your ear off given the chance. His calm but yet still playful personality make him a little unusual for a typical husky. He has the ability to play but realize when its time to chill out. A big lover and is always ready to be loved on he would love to cuddle. In true husky fashion he is curious about everything, he will poke with his nose at anything he is trying to figure out and dive head first in any type of container to find out what inside. His playful curious personality make him a joy to watch play with his toys. He is a little barky and uses his mouth when you want to take a toy so some slight resource guarding is definitely something he has but he has not bit anyone and still enjoys playing tug. He loves prancing around with his toys like a treasure just for him. A home with a dog would be just find but at time he can be to friendly with other dogs so this may be a behavior that not all dogs will appreciate. But overall he doesn't mind the company of other dogs. Take Cardinal out and you will quickly see what joy he is to be with!Give the shelter a call at (574) 267-3008 or email them at infoawlwarsaw if you have any questions about me! Breed overview
Siberian Husky
A.K.A.: Husky, Arctic Husky, Chukcha, Chukchi, Chukchi Sled Dog, Sibe, Sibes, Sled Dog, Snow Dog
Overview:
The Siberian Husky is a striking and beloved breed, originating from Northeast Asia where they were bred by the Chukchi people for pulling sleds over long distances in harsh conditions. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their medium size, thick double coat (available in various colors and markings), and often captivating blue or bi-colored eyes. Their temperament is typically friendly, outgoing, and playful, making them generally good with children and other dogs. However, their independent and sometimes stubborn nature, coupled with a strong prey drive, means consistent training and secure containment are essential. While affectionate, their high energy levels and need for significant exercise make them less suitable for sedentary lifestyles or tiny apartments; a house with a securely fenced yard is often preferred. Health-wise, they are generally robust but can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and eye problems such as cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy. Overall, a Siberian Husky thrives with active families committed to meeting their exercise and mental stimulation needs.
