Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever / Terrier. Adoption Fee: 275.00. Meet Betty! Betty is a sweet, friendly girl who has found her way back to Pet Rescue By Judy through no fault of her own. She was originally adopted from us about 5½ years ago, and as part of our lifelong commitment to our animals, we always welcome our dogs and cats back if their families are no longer able to care for them. Unfortunately, Betty’s owner is being deployed within the next week or so. He has been actively working to find someone he knows who could care for Betty while he is away, but despite his best efforts, he ran out of options. With no one available to take her, he made the difficult but responsible decision to return her to us so she could be safe and well cared for. Betty is super friendly, very sweet, and enjoys being around people. She is currently a little overweight, and we’ll be working on helping her slim down so she can feel her best again. With some regular exercise and a healthy routine, she’ll be back on track in no time. We are still getting to know Betty as she settles back into rescue life. She does appear to be dog friendly at this time, and we will continue to evaluate her interactions and behavior. As we learn more about her personality and preferences, her webpage will be updated.

Overview:
The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
