Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). ABBY - 1-5 years old, house trained, might be timid at first meeting, warms up quickly, good with kids, only pet. Abby (formerly known as Sesame Street) was previously adopted from us here at VBACAC and she’s back for not getting along with a new dog in the house. She’s friendly and playful with kids. She is not a fan of other dogs in her home. Abby is young, active and loves to play, esp with plush and squeaky toys. When I met her, she pancaked to the floor but after a couple of treats I was able to slip my leash over her head and out we went. In the yard, she showed more of that timidity, sniffing around and very aware of any and every noise she heard. She quickly settled in a little, enough to chase a ball, kind of, and sit for a treat where I was able to catch those black floppy ears and her goofy but warm smile. This sweet girl has no problems riding in the car and can be trusted to roam free when left alone. Abby is currently in our medium dog adoption kennel. Come on out to meet her!

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
