Description
Dog Breed: Doberman Pinscher (short coat). Adoption Fee: $400. New to DRM, stay tuned for more info!! Loki is a strong, striking Doberman with a playful spirit and a heart full of love. He’s healthy, smart, and endlessly curious about the world around him. Whether he’s exploring outside, lounging nearby, or nudging you with his big head for attention, Loki brings joy and laughter everywhere he goes. Loki starts each morning with a trip outside, breakfast, and then another quick potty break before settling in for the day. He’s polite about letting you know when he needs to go—his signature move is laying his head gently on you or walking away, only to circle back for your attention. Playtime & Personality: Loki loves his balls and chew bones, but is just as happy relaxing once playtime is over. He’ll play on his own or engage with you briefly—then it’s time for a nap! He’s also figured out how to play gently with cats, giving them silly “Dobe nibbles” or light paw taps to mimic their play. He listens beautifully when told “no kitty,” and his respectful, goofy nature makes him easy to love. Ideal Home: Loki thrives in a calm home where he can build trust at his own pace. He prefers to approach new people first, and once he decides you’re his person—get ready for nose bumps, heavy head snuggles, and being “helped” with whatever you’re doing. He doesn’t do well in a crate but can be trusted loose in the house. He’s perfectly behaved when left alone (even up to 10 hours!) and loves sleeping on the bed at night. Training & Manners: This smart boy knows all the basics—sit, stay, come, down, wait, and even “no kitty.” He’s a dream on leash and is learning excellent recall off leash, always staying within about 15 feet of his person. Once you’ve earned his loyalty, Loki will be your shadow through and through. Car Companion: Loki rides wonderfully in the car, quietly watching the world go by. He’ll even move up front to “guard” the vehicle when left alone—but he doesn’t bark or fuss at passersby. If you’re looking for a loyal, well-mannered companion who’s equal parts goofy and devoted, Loki is ready to find his forever person to adore. ❤️ Please read all adoption steps and policies carefully on our website. dobermanrescueminnesota/adoption-steps/ Qualified adopters are within the approved adoption area, and Adopter will be requested to visit this foster dog at the foster family home. Overview:
The Doberman Pinscher is a sleek and powerful breed originating from Germany in the late 19th century, specifically developed by Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann for protection. Known for their striking, athletic build, Dobermans typically possess a short, glossy coat that comes in black, red, blue, or fawn, often with rust-colored markings. Their temperament is a fascinating blend of loyalty, intelligence, and alertness, making them exceptional guardians and devoted companions. While highly trainable and eager to please, they require early socialization and consistent training to channel their energy and protectiveness appropriately. Dobermans can thrive in active families who can provide ample exercise and mental stimulation, but their need for space and activity generally makes them less suitable for small apartment living unless exceptionally well-exercised. Regarding health, they are predisposed to certain conditions like Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM), Von Willebrand's Disease, and Wobbler Syndrome, so responsible breeding and veterinary care are paramount.
