Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Cookie (AL) is a female Pit Bull Terrier mix whose age is estimated to be 2-3 weeks old at the time of intake in early December 2023. Cookie is up to date on core vaccines (age-appropriate). She is also microchipped and will be spayed prior to placement in her forever home unless there is a medical reason why it has not yet been completed (in which case RDR NYC will work with the adopter to ensure this is done at the appropriate time). Cookie came into rescue after a good samaritan saved her from being intentionally drowned in a lake. Cookie is a sweet, adorable, happy, playful pup who will make her forever home smile! She is a very social girl! If you would like Cookie to grow up as a member of your family, please apply online to adopt Cookie (AL) at .rescuedogsrocknyc. Her adoption fee is $575. Given technical constraints on this database, this pet's location may not be as listed here. We can, however, provide transport support for pets in foster at a considerable distance from the adopter.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
