Description

Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Hello world! Meet Wendy. She is a 65 pound, 3 year old German Shepherd. Wendy was found as a stray roaming the streets with her German Shepherd friend, when she was picked up by animal control and then came to the rescue. She’s a very sweet and lovable girl. She is very cautious around new people but once she gets to know and trust you she won’t leave your side! As a result, she does not need a fenced in yard. Because of her cautious nature, she would not do well with children or a busy household with many people going in and out. She really is a gentle soul who just needs reassurance that everything will be okay. She enjoys car rides and walks, lying on the bed or couch next to her humans, and she loves stuffed toys. She is housebroken and crate trained. If you’re looking for a laid back companion, Wendy is your girl! She is dog friendly but would do best with other large dogs, or none at all. She doesn’t need another fur child in the home to thrive. We have goats and chickens in our yard and she hasn’t bothered them. She is unsure about them and just walks the other direction. She has not been tested with cats. Ready to make Wendy a part of your family? Contact your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at .freedomgermanshepherdrescue. Wendy is being fostered outside of Fayetteville, NC.

A.K.A.: Alsatian, Alsatian Wolf Dog, Shepherd Dog, GSD, Deutscher Schäferhund, Schäferhund, Berger Allemand, Pastore Tedesco, Perro de Pastor Alemán, Alsatian Dog
Overview:

The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
