Description

Dog Breed: Great Pyrenees (medium coat). Meet Lizzy! She is a 3yr old, 75lb, tall, friendly, playful female Great Pyrenees with badger markings that look make her look like a 2 of Diamonds. Lizzy was found on the streets with her 3 week old puppies. They all came into SPIN Rescue and now that her babies are older and adopted, it is time for Lizzy to find a family of her own. Lizzy has always been very sweet, friendly, and affectionate. She loves walks, saying Hi to new people and getting hugs. She is good with other dogs and would love to have another large dog to play with in her home. She loves to play chase, run around the yard, and follow it up with a big nap. Lizzy is house trained. She has no need for a crate. She has a moderate amount of energy, as she loves to play. She gets very excited for treats, she tosses them around and will 'prance' with excitement. Open your heart and home to Lizzy! She will be a great addition to any home. Lizzy is currently in a foster home near Dallas, Texas. Out of state adopters are responsible for arranging their own transport. Lizzy is now spayed, up to date on vaccines and heart worm negative. Her adoption fee is $250. Great Pyrenees

A.K.A.: Pyrenean Mountain Dog, Patou, Chien de Montagne des Pyrénées, Pyrenean, Big White Dog, Bear Dog, Gentle Giant, Great Pyr, Pyr
Overview:

The Great Pyrenees is a majestic and ancient breed, originating in the Pyrenean mountains between France and Spain, where they served as formidable livestock guardians. Physically, they are large, powerful dogs, easily recognized by their thick, double coat, typically white (though sometimes marked with badger, grey, or tan), and a distinctive "double dewclaw" on their hind legs. Despite their imposing size, their temperament is generally calm, gentle, and remarkably patient, making them excellent companions. They possess a natural protectiveness, which translates to a watchful eye over their families and property. While loving and tolerant with children, their size and barking tendencies make them less suited for small apartment living; a home with a yard is ideal. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, patellar luxation, and certain eye conditions, emphasizing the importance of responsible breeding. Their independent nature also means they require consistent, positive reinforcement training.
