Description
Dog Breed: Husky (medium coat). Sweeny came into our care in mid-September of this year from El Centro Animal Control. The Animal Control Officer told us that they had picked her up several times before, but this last time she was not claimed by her owner. During the three months Sweeny has been in our care we have learned that she has a calm and sweet demeanor. Although she is a Husky and she does get along with other dogs, we have noticed that she prefers to be around other dogs that match temperament. Sweeny also does very well on a leash, and she loves to be around people and craves love and attention from them.

Breed overview
Siberian Husky
A.K.A.: Husky, Arctic Husky, Chukcha, Chukchi, Chukchi Sled Dog, Sibe, Sibes, Sled Dog, Snow Dog
Overview:
The Siberian Husky is a striking and beloved breed, originating from Northeast Asia where they were bred by the Chukchi people for pulling sleds over long distances in harsh conditions. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their medium size, thick double coat (available in various colors and markings), and often captivating blue or bi-colored eyes. Their temperament is typically friendly, outgoing, and playful, making them generally good with children and other dogs. However, their independent and sometimes stubborn nature, coupled with a strong prey drive, means consistent training and secure containment are essential. While affectionate, their high energy levels and need for significant exercise make them less suitable for sedentary lifestyles or tiny apartments; a house with a securely fenced yard is often preferred. Health-wise, they are generally robust but can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and eye problems such as cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy. Overall, a Siberian Husky thrives with active families committed to meeting their exercise and mental stimulation needs.
