Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Foster Update: Now that we have had Winnie a few weeks, we feel like we've gotten to know her a lot better. Winnie is a high energy dog! She needs lots of exercise and would do well with humans who enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, running, etc. She is super smart and we are training her some commands such as sit, down, come and stay. She's catching on quickly! With extra training, she could really go far and it would stimulate her brain! She is also completely house trained and crate trained (double bonus)! At this time, Winnie doesn't do well with other animals. She would do best in a home with no other dogs or cats and no small children. She doesn't realize how big and strong she is. Winnie is super loving--she loves to give kisses and hugs and snuggle on the couch. If you'd like to meet Winnie or learn more about her, just let us know and we can reach out to her foster family to set up a meet! Let's find this girl's forever home soon!

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
