Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Corgi / Mixed (medium coat). Remington (Remi for short) was adopted by his current family when he was a young puppy, and has lived with them since; however, with the family's circumstances changing recently, his owners are now looking for a home for Remi where he will receive more attention and care then can be given him in his current home. Remi is an active, fun-loving adult dog, a Heeler/Corgi cross with behaviors typical of the herding breeds. He is a bit nervous about new people and things -- a very typical herding breed characteristic -- but is friendly when he gets to know the person or surroundings. He has not lived with children but has behaved well when around them; however, it would be best, given his age, that he live in a home with older children or no children. Also, he has not been around cats, so how he might react to them is an unknown. Remi is in South Bend IN. If you would like more information about him, or want to meet him, please contact his owner at brendakrathwohlgmail

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
