Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). One year ago, Kane didn’t know if his next meal was coming. Found abandoned in a crate, he was "cargo" in a nightmare scene. But look at him now. Kane hasn't just survived; he has conquered. Since arriving at his Binghamton foster home, he has put in the work. He’s a housebreaking superstar and a world-class "Goofy Love" expert. Yes, he can be a little "bossy" sometimes—but wouldn't you be if you had to fight for everything you ever had? The Kane Cheat-Sheet: Toy Obsessed: He will literally trade his heart for a tennis ball. The Perfect Sidekick: Best in a home with older kids (15+) who appreciate his journey and his need for a calm, structured "kingdom." 500 DAYS IS LONG ENOUGH. Kane has been patient. He has been resilient. Now, he just needs YOU. All of our animals are examined by a veterinarian, given age-appropriate vaccinations, de-wormed, micro-chipped, spayed or neutered, heart-worm tested, and treated if necessary. Vet references and a home/family visit are required, and an adoption fee applies. Transport options are available within our area of operation, including Pennsylvania, the tri-state area, and New England. Please note we do not adopt animals into Canada. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
