Dog Breed: Unknown breed (short coat). Kassie ’s adoption is pending. She is getting a chance to see if she will work out with a prospective adopter. They took advantage of our Foster - to - Adopt program to give her a try in their own home. Meet Kassie! Kassie is a pit mix who has been waiting far too long—over a year and a half in the shelter—for someone to see just how special she is. Despite her long stay, she hasn’t lost her spark. Kassie is full of personality, loyalty, and love, and she’s ready to finally trade kennel life for a forever home where she can truly relax and belong. Kassie will do best in a home with a confident, gentle owner who can provide clear guidance and structure to help her thrive. She’d prefer a home without small dogs, and while she finds cats a little too fun to chase, she makes up for it with her devotion to her people. With the right person in charge—someone patient, kind, and consistent—Kassie will blossom into an incredibly loyal companion and a best friend for life. Kassie is an indoor/outdoor dog. She needs a warm place to call home inside (she can cuddle up next to you) and a fenced yard. She loves to fetch and will give your throwing arm a good workout. ***Give Kassie a chance with our Foster-To-Adopt program !*** No strings attached. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
