Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). Beautiful Scarlet has been waiting for a forever home since May 2024! Luckily, she is being fostered so is in good hands. Her foster reports: She loves to cuddle. Has a good appetite and has learned to politely wait before she starts eating... Knows sit and shake commands. Loves walks and would do best in a house with a yard as she loves to sunbathe, as all pitties do. Does not currently do well with dogs while on a leash, but has played with my landlord's dog every now and then while in their yard. Her white toes, bib, and blaze on her black coat make her a striking pup. To make an appointment to be enamored by Scarlet, please go to yoloshelter/adopt. All animals are up-to-date on vaccinations (including rabies if over 4 months old), microchipped, and spayed or neutered. All dogs have been been vaccinated with DHPP and Bordatella (kennel cough) and heartworm tested negative (if over 6 months). All cats have been vaccinated with FVRCP and current on flea control. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
