Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Meet Dodger — the floppyeared heartbreaker with a story that deserves a beautiful next chapter. Dodger is a young, energetic pup, around 2 years old, with the kind of expressive, flappy ears that make everyone smile and a heart that’s even bigger. She’s playful, goofy, and full of personality — happiest when she’s playing tug, working on a Nylabone, or trotting proudly beside you on a long walk. She’s eager to please, responds well to cues, and incredibly affectionate with the people she trusts. Dodger’s perfect home is one where she can stretch her legs on a few good walks each day and then melt into the couch for wellearned snuggles with her favorite human. She’s the kind of dog who bonds deeply and loves even deeper. Her journey hasn’t been an easy one. Dodger was found running along a highway in Hartford, Connecticut before coming into our care nearly a year ago. We don’t know what she endured before that day, but it’s clear she’s had to be brave far too often in her young life. Because of this, she can be unsure around new people and unfamiliar situations. What she needs now is someone patient, experienced, and committed to helping her continue to grow in confidence through structure, consistency, and compassion. Dodger is currently on anxiety medication to support her through transitions, and she may thrive best as the only pet — though she does enjoy the company of larger male dogs, just like the ones she plays with in her foster home. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will curl up beside you after long days, and reward your patience with unwavering devotion, Dodger might just be your girl. She’s ready for her fresh start — she just needs the right person to walk into her life and say, “Let’s do this together.” Check out our Facebook page to see more pictures and videos of our sweet Dodger! Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
