Description
Dog Breed: Dachshund (short coat). Brin Joy is a sweet 7-year-old Dachshund who came to rescue through no fault of her own. Brin Joy can be a bit shy at first but warms up quickly, she loves to snuggle up next to me under a blanket and even sleeps with her head on a pillow like a person. She is a very sweet girl who loves any and all affection. She does well with dogs of different sizes and energy levels. We have learned that Brin needs the comfort another dog in the home, especially when you are gone. She is a bit scared of the dog door, we are working on getting over that but she hasn’t had any accidents in the house. She loves squeaky toys. Her left ear seems to be permanently sticking straight up which is very cute. Please see FAQs for current adoption fees. DDRTX only adopts in Central/South Texas. The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets. Regarding health, their unique body shape predisposes them to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), so careful handling and weight management are crucial.
