Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Meet Kirby A Big Personality Looking for the Right Person to Call His Own Hi there! I'm Kirby, an energetic 1-year-old Pit mix weighing about 63 lbs, and I've got a whole lot of personality packed into this handsome frame. I was found near Rockbrook Drive in Rockwall back in March, and while I've been waiting patiently for my forever home, I'm still hopeful that the perfect match is out there for me. I'm sweet, goofy, and full of youthful enthusiasm. I love to run, play, and explore, and I'm always up for a good training session or an adventure with my person. I'm currently working on my leash manners, crate training, and house training, and I'll do best with someone who has experience with dogs and is ready to provide consistent structure, guidance, and positive reinforcement to help me continue learning and maturing. Because of my energy level and play style, I'm looking for an adult-only home with no other pets, where I can be the center of attention and build a strong, one-on-one bond with my adopter. I'll thrive with an experienced dog owner who understands young, powerful dogs and can help me channel my enthusiasm in healthy, productive ways. I'm neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and heartworm negative. I've been waiting 303 days as of 01/17/26 to find my forever family, which means I'm now a Diamond Dog with a reduced adoption fee of just $75. RAC completes this procedure at the age of 12 weeks. If you are adopting a pet under the age of 12 weeks or an animal that has not yet been spayed or neutered, you will be required to return the pet to our facility on the agreed upon date set at the time of adoption. This policy is non-negotiable and violation of this health code is a criminal offense.

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
