Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Hey there! I'm Kirby The Spunky Pup Ready to Steal Your Heart! I'm about 1 year old, a lively Pit mix weighing in at around 63 lbs of pure puppy energy! Found near Rockbrook Drive in Rockwall back in March, I'm still waiting for my forever family to come along and share all the love and fun I've got to offer. I'm sweet, silly, and full of zestI love to run, play, and figure out all the puppy games. Right now, I'm mastering the art of walking like a true gentleman on a leash, and I'm working on my crate and house training skills. Got patience? Great! I'll need some help learning my basic commands too. Since I'm such a playful guy, I'd do best in an adult-only home or with kids 16 and up who can keep up with my puppy antics. I'm neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and heartworm negative. I have been searching for my furr ever home for 245 days as of 11/20/2025 and am now considered a Diamond Dog! IMPORTANT NOTICE: All shelter animals are required by Texas state law to be spayed/neutered. RAC completes this procedure at the age of 12 weeks. If you are adopting a pet under the age of 12 weeks or an animal that has not yet been spayed or neutered, you will be required to return the pet to our facility on the agreed upon date set at the time of adoption. This policy is non-negotiable and violation of this health code is a criminal offense.

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
