Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier. RICH STRIKE - 3 years old, 60 pounds, nervous but will warm up to you Rich Strike ended up behind bars at VBACAC when he arrived as a stray with a canine companion. He has been super nervous behind the bars, not really inviting for anyone but he is slowly letting down his walls. I let a caretaker get him and we walked outside together where he turned into a different dog. He ran around playfully and approached me for treats easily. He sniffed around and it was only outside when he started to smile. Rich Strike didn't do too much playing but was def curious about his new surroundings. He has deep grey fur with a white chest, belly, paws, and face. He also has a touch of white at the tip of his tail. Although he came in with another dog, we do not know if he is otherwise dog friendly so we will update when we learn more. Rich Strike is currently in a back kennel so if you come in to meet him and don't see him, please just ask!

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
