Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). *LISTENS WELL, QUIET, KNOWS COMMANDS SAMMY - 7 years old, 45 pounds, house trained, friendly Sammy was surrendered when his owner could no longer care for him. He is shy at first but warms up quickly. Sammy is experienced at being a member of a family. He’s 7 years old now and still has a skip in his step. He loves to go for walks and enjoys going on car rides to the next fun adventure. He also is happy to just hang out with his family. Sammy can be trusted to roam free in a home when left alone although we are told he might bark and/or whine during this time. He sleeps in his crate at night. He is known to steal objects from countertops and/or trash cans so keep your eyes on this silly boy. Sammy is afraid of loud noises...aren't we all? Sammy has not been around other dogs. If you have a resident dog, bring him or her in for a meet and greet and let's see if they can coexist. At the same time, please be ready to supervise, supervise, supervise! When we learn more about how he feels about other dogs, we will update this bio. Sammy is currently in our medium dog adoption kennel and waiting to meet you!

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
