Description
Dog Breed: Belgian Shepherd Malinois. Athena is a gorgeous girl and an absolute love-bug, She is very friendly, curious and calm (for a Malinois, lol) in the house and fantastic on a leash. Athena is fantastic with kids and good with other dogs. She is a dream in the house - 100% trustworthy. Loving, affectionate, she loves to give "drive by" licks as she passes her people! Athena is currently undergoing treatment for a heartworm infestation. She will be ready to adopt by late February 2026. Since she is restricted right now on exercise until her treatment has finished, we will update her energy and drive levels once she is free to run around again. But we know any family would be lucky to have this darling girl in their lives. *********************************************** To apply to adopt, please fill out the application by clicking on the Adopt button or ask for this dog to be added to your existing application. All MAD dogs come with a series 3 Fi Collar and a six-month subscription. We are an official 501c3 organization that does not have a physical location. Our home address is in Michigan, however, the majority of our dogs are not located in Michigan. The physical location of each our our dogs is posted with the name of the pet or in the title area. If you are within 4 hours of the pet, please be prepared to pick the pet up. We do provide transport assistance up to 350 miles. The applicant must drive the remainder of the distance of the transport. The basic information that we have available is in our posting, but sometimes fosters and adoption counselors will post updates on the MAD Rescue Facebook page as well, .facebook/groups/malinoisanddutchshepherdrescueinc. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics.
