Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Bambi is a happy 8 month old "mini German shepherd look alike" who even though she is still learning the world is not a scary place, has made great progress coming out of her shell. Although still an older soul, she now fluctuates between bursts of puppy zoomies, playing with toys and daytime naps. She is always aware of where her people are at, and sets up camp nearby. Although Bambi remains timid with initial human introductions, she warms up with time and patience as people meet her on her level. She has a sweet personality but has recently tried to appear brave with barking when people come to the door. Once she sees they are a friend, she quiets down. We are working on this. She is content watching out the window without barking, and has done well in larger gatherings at our house, mingling with people or finding a wall to observe from. Her favorite activities include window watching, sleeping on the bed in the sun, daily walks to get some energy out, zooming around, and chewing on bones. She loves all toys but is easily distracted. She would love a high fenced yard to run and play in, although not necessary as we do not have a fenced yard and walks have been sufficient for her. She loves to play with her respectful 4 year old human sibling and other children who visit. She knows when to take breaks from all the attention and has seemed overall tolerant of kids. She has not been reactive when food or toys are taken. We are reminding her what should and should not be chewed on, which she is easily redirected. Activities like car rides sometimes make her nervous but she tolerates them. She sleeps through the night quietly in her kennel. She is fully potty trained although her cues to go out -sitting at the front door quietly are subtle. She is smart and quick to run her energy out but otherwise does well as the lone dog. She has been very excited when meeting neighbor dogs. She did well staying at a temporary foster playing with a resident dog after slow introductions. Overall Bambi is a gem of a dog and would love to meet you. Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
