Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). BUFFALO - 1-5 years old, 60 pounds, playful, dog social Buffalo was nervous and barky from behind the cage bars. He was found as a stray, without a home, without his people, so I gave him a pass. Buffalo takes treats gently and knows how to sit on command although he didn't do too much of that when we were outside. He is playful and loves toys. He found one outside and immediately snatched it up and started running around in a teasing but playful manner. SO SILLLY! Buffalo might need some time settling in a new home and meeting new people. Remember your friends and family are still strangers to him. It's always best to let your new pet get accustomed to his or her new home, family, routine at their own pace. Buffalo is becoming a regular in our shelter playgroup. He is very dog social and loves to run and chase. He does currently have a play habit of 'humping' other dogs. He takes corrections very well but is pretty persistent and will go right back to the other dog. He's a pleasure to watch with the other dogs but there are times we have to say OK Buffalo, give the dog a break! LOL Buffalo is currently in our large dog adoption kennel, just come in and meet him.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
