Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). WHAT A SMILE -- WHAT A BOY! ROCCO - 7 years old, 59 pounds, house trained, playful, scared of cats ROCCO is a sweet, happy and playful boy who was surrendered when his family was moving and could not take him along. Although he had been with this family 6 years, almost his whole life, he is not letting this change of plans bring him down. He is ready to run and play, get treats and go for walks which he is used to going several times daily. This being said, we are also told Rocco sleeps a lot and is very easy going at home. He likes to poop in bushes (SILLY) and loves to cuddle. Rocco plays with toys of all kinds, plush, squeaky, tug and balls. In the yard when we met, he found a tennis ball and that was it! LOL He ran around and around with that tennis ball. I traded him a treat for the ball when I wanted to throw it for him. Rocco is dog social but only if given slow introductions. He is terrified of cats, is friendly and playful with children but has not lived with them. Rocco is currently in our medium dog adoption kennel so come out to meet him!

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
