Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Destiny Sibert (DestinySluckydoganimalrescue) for more information about this pet. sweet boy looking for a fresh start with his forever family! KIMBLE NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!! Name: Kimble Best Guess for Breed: Terrier/Shepherd mix Best Guess for Age: 5 years as of January 2026 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 59 lbs Gets Along With: Kimble really wants to be the center of attention so we recommend he be the only dog in the home. We haven't seen him with kids, but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters. Kimble is a little too fixated with cats so he should not go to a home with cats. We'd be cautious about adopting Kimble to someone who lives in an apartment where Kimble would be in close quarters with other dogs in hallways and elevators. Currently Living at: DC area foster home Check out Kimble's Adventures in his Foster Home on Instagram: .instagram/himynameis_kimble/ Kimble is Looking For: Kimble is a sweet, devoted boy who wants nothing more than a love that lasts a lifetime and a family who won’t give up on him. He was originally adopted from Lucky Dog in 2021, but heartbreakingly, Kimble was found wandering as a stray in July 2025. Despite repeated attempts, his former adopter has not responded—leaving Kimble once again without a family through no fault of his own. Through it all, Kimble has remained a gentle, loving companion. He enjoys the simple pleasures in life: leisurely walks, sniffing everything along the way, playing in the yard, and curling up on the couch with his people. He doesn’t demand constant attention, but he’s happiest when he can be nearby, quietly keeping you company. His leash manners have improved tremendously—he used to pull, but he’s made great progress and continues to get better every day. With his love of exploring and relaxing outdoors, he’d make an excellent picnic buddy. Kimble is also a bit of a goofball—one of his favorite pastimes is rolling around in fluffy grass just because it feels good. Inside the home, he’s calm and easygoing, rarely barks, and is always up for a friendly game of tug. He’s crate-trained and has had no accidents in his foster's house. Kimble would thrive in a home where someone is around during the day, as he deeply values human companionship. He must be the only pet in the home and would do best in a setting that avoids close, frequent contact with other dogs—so a single-family home is preferred over an apartment with busy hallways and elevators. Kimble has already lost a family once. He’s hoping the next one will be his last. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion who just wants to be close and belong, Kimble is ready to give you his whole heart—forever. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
