Description
Dog Breed: Dutch Shepherd / Belgian Shepherd Malinois / Mixed. Meet Indie! Currently in Illinois 6 years old Dutch Shepherd / Malinois mix Indie (originally known as Duchess) was adopted from MAD Rescue as a young pup. Through no fault of her own, she has found her way back to rescue after her loving owners faced serious health challenges. Indie has come a long way from the scared, undersocialized dog we first met years ago. Right now, what she needs most is a safe foster home where she can decompress, settle into a routine, and rebuild her confidence while we search for the right forever home. About Indie Indie is goofy, affectionate, and absolutely loves her people. She is obsessed with ball, fetch, and proudly showing off her favorite stuffies. She’s very smart, highly food motivated, and has solid basic obedience. She is crate trained, settles well when home alone, and is a nondominant female who can do well with other large dogs when introductions are done properly. Indie can be shy with new people and needs time to warm up. When allowed to move at her own pace (and offered a few treats ), she builds strong bonds and becomes incredibly loyal and loving. One exception is the vet. Indie does not enjoy being handled by strangers and needs careful management during vet visits. She is comfortable wearing a muzzle and does best with a handler who understands how to advocate for her. Ideal Home No young children No cats or small dogs Secure fenced yard required (high prey drive) Experience with working breeds or shy dogs preferred Patient, structured leadership that helps build confidence Once Indie bonds, she is playful, affectionate, and would make a wonderful companion for someone who enjoys training, activity, and a loyal partner. Sponsored Adoption Indie’s adoption fee has already been covered by a supporter. She just needs the right person willing to give her the chance she deserves. MAD Rescue will support her foster or adopter with guidance on decompression and integration to help set everyone up for success. If you can foster or adopt, please reach out. Let’s help #MadLoveIndie find a safe place to land. We are an official 501C3 organization that does not have a physical location.
