Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). Formerly known as `Spunk`, this guy was clearly meant for a more dignified name...which is how he was renamed `Gatsby`! Gatsby was found abandoned with a painful cut on his paw after stepping on broken glass. After treatment and wound care, he made his way to our shelter. Unfortunately, he also developed `happy tail` which can happen in a kennel when a strong tail hits a hard kennel wall repeatedly, causing it to split and bleed at the tip. Despite that rough start, Gatsby remains one of the happiest, most people-loving dogs around. He is the type of pup who enjoys both world: zoomies AND quiet cuddles. The way he leans into you for scratches and affection is like having a very wiggly weighted blanket. He tends to do best with female dogs and would need a proper introduction with any potential canine housemates. Cats are not his thing. Gatsby's favorites are PEOPLE. He has done well meeting people of all ages, including kids! Schedule an appointment to meet Gatsby at yoloshelter/dogs or email adoptyoloshelter

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
