Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Meet Kodiak, a 9-month-old Pit Bull mix who weighs 42.5lbs and has a soul as brave as his name suggests. Kodiak came to the shelter as a stray with chemical burns on his head, back, and foot. The scars of his past are still visible, but they don’t define him. Through it all, he has remained a happy, resilient pup who adores everyone he meets! Kodiak gets along wonderfully with his foster siblings—both canine (big and small) and even the household cat! He has also met children and shown his gentle, affectionate side with them too. Smart and eager to please, Kodiak is fully potty trained and walks beautifully on a leash. Now that his burns have healed, this brave boy is ready for a fresh start in a loving forever home. Could that be with you? If you are interested in adopting, please visit the I.C.A.R.E. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
