Description
Dog Breed: Shar Pei. Meet Pei Pei! Pei Pei is a five-year-old Shar-Pei. Both of his 80+ yr old owners are unable to take care of him and one of them suffers from dementia. Therefore, we are trying to find him a new home otherwise, they plan to put him down. When Pei Pei is on medication, he gets along well with his dog friends at the in-home doggie day care where he stays about 4 months every year. Pei Pei has property destruction behavior when his human is not home or away from home for a long time. However, he is very well-behaved when he is on medication. It is suspected that Pei Pei has separation anxiety and will need to be on medication consistently. Pei Pei will need a loving owner who will be home for most of the time. It is possible for him to have dog siblings but they will need to be very calm. Not sure if Pei Pei is good with cats and children since he hasn’t had an opportunity to have contact with any. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
