Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Hi, I’m Raven! Life took a turn when I was brought in as a stray, and sadly, no one ever came to reclaim me. But I’ve been given a fresh start—the shelter gave me a dental cleaning and took out some broken teeth, so now I’m feeling so much better. I absolutely adore people, love to be pet, and enjoy playing around. I think I’d do best as your one-and-only dog, but if you have other pups, a meet-and-greet will help us see if we can be friends. She is HW+, but you can foster to adopt , which means the dog stays with you until treatment is completed and they are cleared, at no extra cost to you. The dog comes off the adoption website once you are signed up for the foster to adopt program, or you can choose to go ahead and adopt, which at that point you are responsible for taking care of the treatment and the cost. Call the shelter at 972-744-4480 or email AskRichardsonAnimalServicescor.gov to learn more.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
